May 2019

Ministry Summary

The changes implemented in the kids and youth services are progressing well. Services and small groups continue to grow and we remain focused on raising local leaders.

Maintenance crews are close to finishing at Hands of Hope Faith Academy and 4 new teachers have been hired for the commencement of the 2019-20SY in June. The school received government recognition earlier this month, a wonderful achievement by Elsa, our principal. One of our teachers has finished painting a number of images encouraging learning and correct behaviour inside and outside the classrooms, and stationery has been purchased for around 160 pupils (this includes, HOHFA students, High School, and College students).

Thank you to many who have generously given to this project. However, we do require more sponsors, and it’s not too late to help. You can make a significant difference in a child’s life for NZ$25 per month.

Family Update & NZ Trip

Jenny left early May to start a six-week locum in Rotorua and has settled in well. Joe is learning to drive and progressing well. He does get a lot of practice over the weekend as he drives back and forth from Agoo. Earlier this week he finished his exams and had his graduation service on Wednesday. In August Joe starts his final year at Brent and is looking to enrol at Auckland University mid 2020.

June 12th Joe and I head to Manila to catch a plane and head back to New Zealand. We arrive on Thursday and head out of town on Friday for a number of speaking engagements. We arrive back in Auckland at the end of June.

I will be in NZ for just over a month and would love to catch up with as many of you as possible. If you are available please feel free to call me (after June 12) on 022 404 1856 or send an email or facebook message.

Focus Project: Child Sponsorship

Kids Sponsorship is a major focus of what we do, as a good education is essential if the poverty cycle is to be broken. In fact, those whom we (including some of you) have helped attain college degrees, have found good-paying jobs in Baguio. Because of this they are able to help their families as well as invest small amounts into our school.

For under $1 a day, ($25 month or $300 per year) you can help give children a better future!

Well, that’s about it for May. Thank you for reading and if you are on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or skype please add us as we would love to keep in touch.

Love and Blessings

Duane, Jenny & Joe
