Shortly after the Christmas celebrations Joe and myself joined Reaching Hands Tribal Missions (RHTM) and headed to Mindanao. RHTM is lead by Norlyn (Norlyn is a YWAM graduate and an important part of our leadership and ministry team) and every year she heads back to her place of birth to reach out and minister to a number of mountain villages.
This year we took the opportunity to join her and were so impressed with what she is doing. In the space of 12 days we visited 10 locations, climbed mountains, crossed a river, preached the gospel, prayed for adults and kids, fed them, played games, handed out school stationary, school bags, lunch boxes, and drink bottles.
The villages we went to were the poorest of the poor and it was exciting to witness the hope the gospel brings as well as being able to demonstrate the love of God in practical ways. The youth that joined us from San Isidro will never be the same as God used them in ways they never thought possible. We are looking forward to joining Norlyn again next year. Photos will be posted on our website shortly.
At the beginning of December we celebrated our second foundation day. Mayor Stefanie (Agoo Mayor) was our guest speaker and delivered an encouraging word. Each of the grades displayed their talents in singing and dancing which was then followed by a student and faculty fashion parade made out of recycled materials. Their designer gowns were exceptional and you can see a few photos by clicking here.
Shortly after the foundation day, Dimmmsu, the local University, initiated the Christmas celebrations by visiting the school, playing games, handing out gifts and feeding both the students and staff. Shortly after their visited we had our official school party, which meant more games, dances, an inspirational message and more food. Once again, it was a great time and the smiles on the kids' faces said it all. Normally Christmas is just another day in their calendar but because of your generosity we were able to make it a special occasion -thank you. Click here to view a few photos of the celebration.
It’s been wonderful to have Rod and Karen with us for the last few weeks. We certainly needed the extra help during the busy Christmas period. They were also here to make sure everything ran smoothly while Joe and myself were in Mindanao.
Both of them have a teaching background and so we made the most of their experience by having them train and minister to the school faculty as well as sitting down assessing a number of kids and then putting procedures in place to help with their learning. Their humility and love for the people is such an example for us to follow.
Love and Blessings Duane, Jenny & Joe
