The last few months have been a positive learning curve for many of the kids, parents and staff as we continue to move forward in providing a quality education for those that would normally not have access to it. Within such a short period of time we are seeing positive results. Recently we competed against 16 other private schools in a competition called Buwan Ng Wika (National Language Month). The teachers worked extremely hard with a number of the children and the results paid dividends as our school achieved second place. A positive result and one we are extremely proud of.
Last month we sent our teachers down to Manila for the 2014 Teaches Learning Summit with ACSI (Association Christian Schools Institute). The came back better equipped, inspired and challenged to become better teachers. During 2015 we aim to further their training (sounds a bit like Star Wars) so we can continue to move forward in becoming one of the top private schools in the area.
On the 8th of December we will have the official grand opening of Hands of Hope Faith Academy. The Congressman and Major are already confirmed as are a number of the local Baranagay officials and parents. Prayer, dancing, speeches and food promise to make this a memorable event I’ll make sure a video is posted.
We recently launched small groups in one of the Villages we work in. Wonderful testimonies of transformed lives as well as God answering prayer are already being brought to our attention. One lady shared of her recent encounter with God. For a variety of reasons she had stopped following God a number of years ago. A few months ago she hurt her arm and and the pain would not go away. Around 2 weeks ago she prayed to God and said, “if you heal my arm I will follow you”. The next day she woke up with no more pain in her arm. Last week she attended our small group for the first time and as she shared her testimony she could not stop crying. God is so good. We are looking forward to more positive reports.
We received a significant amount in donations for the victims of typhoon Yolanda. After a trip to the affected areas and discussions with a variety of people we have decided to partner with YWAM to help build a new community for families displaced by typhoon Yolanda in Bogo, northern Cebu. Through a divinely orchestrated series of events YWAM has been offered some land to build houses and a community centre which will allow the establishment of a base to minister to relocated families and from there into northern Cebu.
As mentioned in the introduction Christmas starts early in the Philippines. Over the last few years we have thrown the BIGGEST Christmas Party to celebrate the gospel and hand out gifts. In 2012 (2013 we used the money to support families that had suffered from typhoon Yolanda) we had an incredible 3 day celebration and touched close to 1500 people. We had dances, games, an amazing celebration service and then handed out over 250 food parcels and another 250 clothing parcels.
We will be repeating the BIGGEST Christmas Party again this year and would like to invite you to partner with us. You can help put an unforgettable smile of kids and adults faces. Click Here to find out more.
Thank you to all those that are praying for us and supporting us financially. Once again we are overwhelmed by your support. Your love and generosity are making a massive difference. From the team here at Hands of Hope, a BIG THANK YOU!Love and Blessings Duane, Jenny & Joe
