2 ½ years ago we were invited to visit a place called San Isidro. San Isidro is a Barangay (village) in Agoo, La Union. Since our introduction to San Isidro we have seen God touch many peoples lives. We have also moved into three other surrounding Barangays, San Nicholas, San Manual and Balawerte. The local political officials – Mayor and Congressmen, have labelled these people “indigent”. This really means that they are at the lower end of the scale when it comes to poverty.
San Isidro, San Manual and San Nicholas are currently served by two public elementary schools (age kids 6 – 12). The current schools are severely over populated with kids. For example, San Nicholas school has 16 classrooms and close to 1300 kids (San Manuel similar). Schools are very poorly resourced and this is reflected in the quality of the education provided. They do not have computers, adequate sports facilities or playgrounds adhering to appropriate safety standards. The classrooms are not maintained; leaky buildings are the norm, broken widows remain unrepaired, rotting wood and rusty iron are a very familiar site when walking around the school.
Our main objective is to help the poor and the underprivileged in attaining quality education.
We seek to establish an education environment where the poor and underprivileged can succeed in mathematics, sciences and other subjects that help them fight their economic conditions. Christian principles will underpin the fabric of the environment encouraging those who attend to develop a love for God.
Last week we had a great baptism service, youth and adults mostly. A lot of the people were from our latest church plant in Balawerte. It’s really exciting to be working in areas where there are no churches and to see lives transformed. We have posted a 1 minute video online and also some photos. Click here to view the video.
We will be holding another baptism service next month in a different location. We are so excited by what we are seeing. Why don’t you consider joining us for a while? I’m sure you would find the experience very fulfilling and life transforming.
Education is a key ingredient in transforming communities in poverty. We have been running our sponsorship programme for close to two years now and have witnessed the positive impact a good education has. The kids self worth, esteem and belief all increases. It’s just amazing!
We do need a number of new sponsors. For under a $1 a day, you can transform a child's life by providing basic necessities we so much take for granted. We believe we can offer you a unique opportunity to connect with a specific child in need. Commit today and help transform a child's life!
Your child sponsorship monthly pledge of $25 can help turn the tide and bring a brighter future. Your regular monthly support will provide things such as:
